Maid
Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) has been legal in Canada since 2016. Although there are supports to help navigate the MAiD system, individuals, families and friends may find it beneficial to speak with a counsellor. It is normal for family and friends to have conflicting thoughts and feelings, accepting your loved one’s decision for MAiD can be difficult. Counselling can help you find acceptance, to ensure that negative feelings and relationship tensions are resolved or softened, to try to make the most of the time you have with your loved ones. Grief counselling and bereavement support will assist individuals in healing from their loss. Grief counselling and support can begin at any time - loss and distress is often experienced way before the first diagnosis was made.
Individuals who are considering MAiD may find it beneficial to meet with a counsellor to help process their decision. There may be concerns you have, fears for your loved ones, or unresolved conflicts (in your relationships or your own beliefs) which you want to mend. There may be details you want to discuss to ensure the transition goes as you want it to. I offer a mobile service to come to individuals who are not mobile. I will meet you at your home or hospital.
